2 Gadgets That Make Our Life Better When We’re At Home and When we Travel

goodfriends

Like a pair of comfortable old shoes, these two little gadgets have established a place in our lives and in our affection.  Together, they fill a little niche and produce a big bang for the buck.

The SanDisk Sansa Clip MP3player  is very small and weighs less than an ounce.    It costs around $55.  You can store music, podcasts, audio books, or listen to its built-in FM radio.  It can store up to 1000 songs but if you want to store more, simply insert a preloaded microSD or microSDHC card, and you’ll be ready to play music, podcasts, or audio books in seconds–with no waiting for downloads and no computer required. It  has a  recharable battery which lasts up to 15 hours.  You can carry it in a shirt pocket or use its built-in clip to clip it on to a garment.  That makes it perfect for taking it to the gym, on a walk or on a flight.

At the gym we either listen to music to facilitate our workouts or listen to materials for language study (podcasts of News in Slow Spanish, verb conjugations, stories in Spanish for which we also have the easy reader books).  When we travel, we like to have it so we can access these materials whereever we are.

The one problem we have with the SanDick is that we can’t set the SanDisk Sansa Clip MP3 down in the middle of the room and play background music for a group or  play it so we can practice our dancing.

To solve that problem, we purchased the iHome  3.5mm Portable Speaker, which costs around $16.   The sound quality of this little speaker  is quite amazing.  The speaker works with any 3.5 mm headphone jack, so you can use it with an MP3 player, a laptop, phone, or portable game device.  It has a long-lasting rechargeable internal lithium ion battery.  In the photo above it is shown in its open position, but it collapses into a smaller configuration for travel.

When we use these two together in an exchange home, we are able to play our own music, practice our dancing, or listen together to our language lessons.

There are of course plenty of alternative devices which compete with these devices.  These just happen to be the ones we have been using for years and have grown to love.  If you would like more information on either one you canclick here for the SanDisk Sansa Clip
